In this milestone year, we're celebrating a quarter-century of brewing with a new, limited release 25th Anniversary Mix Pack. These beers embody the past, present, and future of Ballast Point with four classics that define our journey through the years: Calico (Amber Ale, 1996), California Kolsch (German Style Pale Ale, 1996), Sculpin (IPA, 2005), and Big Gus (IPA, 2021).
AMBER ALE, 1996
The very first beer brewed on the original 15-barrel brewhouse at Home Brew Mart, our ESB-inspired ale has seen a name and artwork change since it was first introduced in ’96, but we’re partial to its very first moniker: Calico Amber Ale. Our Calico Amber Ale is a rich, copper ale; bold and complex with a nod to traditional ESBs. American hops and four types of malts create a ruby-red beer with hints of toasted caramel, citrus and spice. An award-winning original with a distinct bite, sure to be a trip down memory lane.
GERMAN STYLE PALE ALE, 1996
Our California Kölsch is a rich golden brew, crafted with aromatic German hops and rounded out with a blend of American and Munich malts. While it’s hopped like a lager, we ferment it like an ale to create a smooth, bright taste that has just a hint of fruit and spice. It’s extremely drinkable, like a Kölsch should be, yet complex, like a good craft beer demands.
INDIA PALE ALE, 2005
Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish.
INDIA PALE ALE, 2021
Clearly different than other IPAs, Big Gus is what happens when we set out to make a clear hazy IPA. Hop-bursted like a hazy, this brew is clear and extremely dry, with fruity aromas and a soft bitterness. An unexpected bonus: Big Gus is under 150 calories. We bucked one trend and stumbled into another - and we're not mad about it.
